Flat Stanley

My friend Tina is a third grade teacher in Baltimore, Maryland and she sent me Flat Stanley this week.
He is part of a project her class is doing .
I think this is the cutest idea and I just love saying
Flat Stanley

When you receive him you are supposed to take a picture of yourself and Flat Stanley in your hometown or any places you might visit and include a letter about his time with you.
After his vist, we're supposed to return him to the child that sent him.
Jazmine is the student that sent Flat Stanley to me and she writes that this is Flat Stanley's first trip out of Glen Burnie, Maryland.

Since the Panthers' season is over Tom, decided to let Flat Stanley "hold" his autographed Panther's football.
I thought Flat Stanley would enjoy being in the latest edtion of Carolina Bride's magazine.
This edition features our friends Alyse and Phillip Woodward.

All of this got me to thinking...

If someone sent you a Flat Stanley where would you take him?

Flat Stanley would probably be hanging out with my kids and myself this weekend(my hubby is going out of town, and I have a really bad cold), so Stan would follow me all around my home...He could lend a hand with the laundry that is piling up as we speak, watch TV with my kids, maybe even take a dip in the dog's water bowl(which is rarely used since my dog prefers the toilet as his water source, gross I know but at this point I tell the kids this is a good way to make sure they actually flush), Poor Flat Stanley would probably be bored, not to mention missing some limbs...I have 3 boys....Alright my head is pounding and my family needs to eat, so goodbye for now!

April,
You crack me up girl friend!! I'm sorry I'm not there to fix you some Greek chicken soup; it will cure anything. I guess it's because those Greek chickens are so hard to find. HA!
Keep me posted on raising your boys. Our two sons are out of the house now and I promise you will survive testosterone poisioning too.

Hey Zoe!
Thank you for replying! I could definitely use some Greek chicken soup, sigh, I guess Campbell's will have to do. My daughter woke up with the same cold today, my boys are definitely better...if you could hear the noise level in my house right now... I almost cried watching my husband pull out of the driveway this morning, but I am starting to feel a little better. I don't think I mentioned my daughter in my earlier comment, simply because she would not have been involved in the dismemberment of Flat Stanley, she would have however, enhanced his appearance with anything sparkly and maybe some of her dress-up makeup as well! I could use any advice you could give me regarding raising boys. I love them dearly, but they can really drive me up the wall! Well, it sounds as if a war is going on in my living room, I better go! Thanks for listening! April

April,
I'm always excited to I hear of another "pretty, pretty princess". My husband and sons refer to me as "Sparkles".
Hey, I think we sould ALL sparkle for Jesus.
To help me remember the true meaning of a princess... "She comes to serve and not to be served" I wear a tiara while cleaning my house. I'm not kidding.

As for advice on rasing boys... Where girls communicate through words; boys communicate with physical behavior.
When our boys would wrestle each other to the ground my husband would remind me that they were simply asking each other about their day.
By God's grace they really have grown into very responsible and engaging young men.
Keep me posted...I'm off to don my tiara and scrub a few toilets.
Enjoy your soup and get some rest.

Zoe,
I am so enjoying our blogging conversation! I am taking a break right now from trying to establish order in my home. Thanks so much for the advice on boys, I had never heard that before, but it really brings things in perspective. Oh how physical they are! I also loved your princess quote, I forget that sometimes. Sometimes I think that I'm not special if I'm not being served by my husband, kids, etc. I forget that even in this it is more blessed to give than to recieve. How selfish I've become! Thank God for grace! Now, I'm refreshed and ready to be a princess and serve my family! Now where did my daughter put her tiara?....

Hey April,
How are you this morning and how did you and the kids survive the weekend without your hubby?
I'm excited to see that we live close to one another.
I'd love to talk to you about writing some devotionals from your view point.
If you get a minute e-mail me.

Alyse,

How's the newly wed? I loved your article and the pictures are fabulous! I thought it would be a hoot to let Flat Stanley be on the cover with you. I should have put him on my magazine cover. Yes, I too am a cover girl. Tom calls me Mrs. January. HA!

What's happening with you and Phillip? Any news on a job?
Thanks for writing.
Keep us posted.

Instead of a Flat Stanley, my niece sent a version of herself. The teacher had the kids lay on the floor, outlined their bodies on paper, and the kids colored them. "Flat Davida" came from Illinois to visit me in Virginia. I took pictures of Flat Davida around our historical city: on the cannons at a Civil War battlefield, up in a Dogwood tree (VA state tree), on the steps where President Lincoln gave a speech, etc. I stapled a paper booklet with a picture on each page and a brief history lesson about Virginia!

Hey Rose,
You're fabulous! I'm just thankful I don't have to make a life-sized cut out of myself; I don't think there is an envelope big enough HA!
